HOME HEATING ASSISTANCE NOW AVAILABLE
2/4/2010
Des Moines, Iowa – State Representative Bob Kressig of Cedar Falls today reminded Iowans who need aid with home heating costs this winter to apply for financial assistance from the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP.
“In these tough economic times, many families are struggling to make ends meet and need some assistance to help pay for their energy costs. No Iowan should have to choose between food and prescription drugs or keeping their home warm,” said Kressig. “This is also a great opportunity for families to make energy efficiency improvements to their home and save money while conserving energy.”
LIHEAP assistance is based on annual income and families of all sizes may apply. The average LIHEAP award is $400 and the payment is made directly to the utility company. Iowans who apply for LIHEAP assistance are also automatically eligible for weatherization assistance that can include insulation, furnace repair/replacement, and water heater replacement.
